The SSI Stress & Rescue Specialty Course

Stress & rescue DiversThe Stress and Rescue Course is best described as challenging and extremely rewarding, not to mention invaluable. The Stress & Rescue course is an important step in expanding your thinking beyond purely recreational level. Rescue divers are renowned for making the safest and most well regarded dive buddies.

There are several reasons for wanting to become a Rescue Diver. Stress & Rescue training expands your knowledge of diving, increases your level of diving skills and makes you more aware of what is happening around you. Becoming a certified SSI Stress & Rescue Diver, you will learn invaluable skills and techniques that will help you prevent diving problems and if necessary, manage dive emergencies.

The program is about avoiding, recognizing and solving problems on the surface and underwater.
The course runs two - four days in which you will participate in academic and in-water sessions in the pool and in the open water. As a prerequisite for certification you need to have a valid CPR & First Aid certificate.

The Stress & Rescue course is one which builds on your diving confidence, training you in self-rescue as well as assisting others in need. You will gain a massive increase and a heightened awareness of spotting potential problems and dealing with them before they become a problem. Most divers find this course both demanding and rewarding, and at the end, say it’s the best course they’ve ever taken.

What's Involved

The Snorkel Safari- Ringwood, SSI Stress & Rescue course offered by Snorkel Safari- Ringwood is conducted over three days, typically held over two consecutive weekends. Alternatively, Snorkel Safari- Ringwood also offer occasional full time programs conducted over three consecutive days typically during weekdays.

SUNDAY (Weekend One);

9am - 5pm, Academic & Classroom Instruction.

SATURDAY (Weekend Two);

8am - 4pm, Confined Water Training.

In the pool session we will show you how to recognise stress and you will learn techniques used to manage rescue situations. We will also go through a range of scenarios to reinforce those skills and bring it all together in a real-life situation.


SATURDAY (Weekend Two);

8am - 4pm, Open Water Training (NOTE: Times vary dependant on tides, weather & conditions)

The open water training is designed to solidify the skills you learned in the pool. This is where you will put into practice all of your stress and rescue skills.
