The SSI Open Water Diver Certification
As a certified SSI Open Water Diver, the opportunities are endless. Upon successful completion of your dive classes in one of our Melbourne based training facilities; you will possess the skills, knowledge and confidence to dive to a maximum depth of 18metres (60foot) worldwide without the supervision or guidance of a tour leader, dive guide, instructor or other dive professional.

What's Involved
The Snorkel Safari- Ringwood, SSI Open Water Diver course is consists of six (6) modules in addition to the online home study academics program which can be started at anytime; even prior to enrolling onto your program. Snorkel Safari- Ringwood offer a variety of options for each component and course format.
The Snorkel Safari- Ringwood Open Water Diver course is broken down into two academic modules (conducted as two sessions, with both evening and weekend options available), two pool diving modules (conducted as a single full day session or two half day sessions) and two open water modules, the first where you will complete two shore based open water dives at one of Melbourne's stunning pier dive sites such as Rye or Flinders Pier and the second where you will complete two boat based open water dives.
Maximum Flexibility
Snorkel Safari- Ringwood provide a number of schedule and course format options to ensure that regardless of your work, social, family and other commitments we will have a schedule option to ensure you can join the world of SCUBA diving with minimal difficulty.
Fixed Format Evening & Weekend Program This is the most traditional format of program, similar to that offered by many dive centres and scuba schools and is conducted over two consecutive weeks as a combination of evening and weekend sessions in the following format.
WEEK ONE;
- Thursday Evening- Academic Session 1
- Friday Evening- Academic Session 2
- Saturday- Pool Sessions 1 & 2
- Sunday- Open Water Module 1
WEEK TWO;
- Saturday/Sunday- Open Water Module 2
Fixed Format Weekend Only Program Similar to the above course format, however aimed at those future divers that are unable to attend evening/ weekend sessions and is conducted over two consecutive weekends with all sessions conducted on Saturday's and Sunday's in the following format.
WEEKEND ONE;
- Saturday Morning- Academic Session 1, Saturday Afternoon- Pool Session 1
- Sunday Morning- Academic Session 2, Sunday Afternoon- Pool Session 2
WEEKEND TWO;
- Saturday- Open Water Session 1 (Two Shore Dives)
- Sunday- Open Water Session 2 (Two Boat Dives)
Build-Your-Own-Course For those future divers that find it hard to commit to either of the above fixed format options but are able to predict their availability and schedule ahead of time, the build-your-own-course is ideally suited. When booking your build-your-own-course program you will book all sessions at the time of enrollment with the added flexibility of being able to select the date and time of each session from our extensive training schedule.

Flexible Format Also refered to as our step-by-step program, the flexible fomat program is similar to the Build-Your-Own-Course program with the added benefit of being able to book each session as your schedule, budget or confidence dictates. This program is ideal for those future divers who have a dynamic schedule and find it difficult to commit to multiple dates and times in advance and is also popular with those who feel they might like to gain more experience in any of the modules prior to progressing to the next. The added benefit of our flexible format program, allows you to break the cost and payment of the program up over time as your book and enrol onto each session.
